Jordan Peele Is Making The Gayest Black Horror Movie Ever Titled 'It's Inside Me'
Jordan Peele, the actor, director, and writer known best for ‘Black Ghoulies’, and the visionary creative force behind such blockbuster horror films as 'Get Out' and ‘Us’, has announced that his fourth directorial project will be the gayest black horror movie ever made, and it’s called ‘It’s Inside Me.’
Casting for the film is already underway, with Jonathan Majors (‘Lovecraft Country’) set to play the role of Jesse Patton, a straight black man who gets a strange call in the middle of the night from a gay black man. Jesse soon discovers there’s something inside of him, and it’s more than just old memories locked away in his closet. Something more terrifying! Also, Winston Duke (‘Us’) is rumored to be in talks to play the thing inside of the lead character, Jesse.
Peele reports to BloJo Movie Network that he was "moved to tears by the script" (which was originally pitched as ‘Get Out of the Closet') because he felt the subject matter reminded him of the particularly relevant ‘Black Ghoulies.’
“I think the question I’m trying to ask and answer with ‘It’s Inside Me’ is, What does it truly mean to be a gay black man in America?” the filmmaker recently told BloJo. “With my past movies I used horror to show white supremacy as the ultimate terror. Now I want to elevate the queer subtext. I’m using possession, transformation, gratuitous violence and mutilation to talk about everything gay. I want to make the gayest horror film of all time, gayer than ‘A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge’. And that movie was gay, if you know what I’m saying!”
Speaking with BloJo, ‘It’s Inside Me’ writer Cousin Wayne explained the importance of bringing the gay horror film to life on the big screen for black audiences:
“Look, I’m just a white guy who drinks a lot of beer and works at KFC. I’m not going to pretend to know anything about the importance of gay black men. One night while I was hanging with my buddies, I said, ‘Can you imagine if the characters who got infected in John Carpenter’s The Thing screamed IT’S INSIDE ME? Wouldn’t that sound gay? Can you imagine them spitting up a white substance after they screamed IT’S INSIDE ME...you know like semen.’ We thought it was funny. Jordan Peele took my idea and added the black spin and voila...there you have it. IT’S INSIDE ME!”
The movie will release exclusively to Shudder on Halloween.
Nothing further to report at this time but, uh, maybe, maybe, maybe, this’ll be a super-scary new horror movie for us all to enjoy. Fingers crossed.
What a time to be a gay horror fan!
In other news, Jordan Peele is already lining up his future projects. He’s currently adapting Stephen King’s ‘Children of the Corn’, which he’ll call ‘Children of the Ghetto.’ It’ll be about a white family from the Midwest moving to New York and their misunderstanding of the black community. And he’s currently working on a modern retelling of ‘Maniac Cop’ with an all- black cast, with the exception being Mel Gibson, who will play the cop.
