Burton Cut Of Batman In Development At HBO Max Starring Jared Leto’s Joker
With the recent launch of WarnerMedia’s new streaming service HBO Max, the multi-media conglomerate has been utilizing the service to push its vast library of DC content. This includes DC streaming exclusives like Titans and Doom Patrol, DCEU films including a simultaneous streaming and theatrical release of Wonder Woman ’84, and the upcoming love or love-to-hate Snyder Cut of Justice League.
Mr. Snyder is not the only DC director who recognizes the streaming service’s ability to refresh content and captivate the comic-loving audience. Our sources confirm that none other than Tim Burton has been in talks for a new director’s cut of his cult favorite 1989 spandex flick, Batman. While Burton is a household name today, it was not the case when he took the helm and brought the Dark Knight to the big screen. Burton feels the lessons he has learned in the last three decades will help him re-cut the film and elevate it for 2020’s.
While this news has been exciting many comic book movie lovers, one decision is not sitting well with all Batman fans. Burton has revealed he is taking a line out of Snyder’s book and will be doing reshoots to replace Jack Nicholson’s iconic Joker with Suicide Squad’s Jared Leto. When asked for comment on this controversial choice Burton replied, “I have had my eye on Jared for years. ‘My So-Called Life’ was a guilty pleasure when destressing from filming Batman Returns and producing Nightmare.” He went on to explain a desire to tie his films into the current universe, stating, “This will bring great continuity and make my take on the Batman relevant for the DCEU audience.” Burton also eluded that the film will include new footage of Michael Keaton as the Caped Crusader, though it was unclear whether this will be film from the cutting room floor or newly shot footage.
Negotiations are still ongoing with an expected release date late in 2022. We will keep you informed as the story unfolds.
In other news, Sylvester Stallone says he's currently working on a director's cut of the critically panned Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot, and he promises that it's "amazing."
