A.V. Pull List: The Moon Is Following Us is a must-read comic
The Moon Is Following Us is a series that combines emotional storytelling, stunning visuals, and masterful color work to create one of the most exciting and imaginative comics on shelves today.
At its core, The Moon Is Following Us is a tale of love, loss, and resilience. It follows Sam and Duncan LaMarr, two parents whose six-year-old daughter, Penny, is trapped in a mysterious coma. But Penny’s mind hasn’t shut down—it’s been transported to an intricate, dreamlike world shaped by her imagination. Determined to save their child, Sam and Duncan embark on a perilous mission to navigate this surreal landscape. Along the way, they meet characters and creatures born from Penny’s dreams. Some are friends, others are foes, but all of them are manifestations of her life and emotions. The LaMarrs must traverse this unstable dream world, confronting not only its challenges but their own fears and limitations as parents.
The series taps into universal fears and hopes, exploring what it means to be a parent and the lengths you’ll go to protect your child. But it’s not just the emotional weight that makes this series shine; the dream world is a masterclass in visual storytelling, with every panel bursting with life and detail.
For fans of fantasy, adventure, or just great storytelling, The Moon Is Following Us is an absolute must-read. From its heartfelt writing to its jaw-dropping art and colors, it’s a testament to what happens when a creative team (Daniel Warren Johnson, Riley Rossmo, and Mike Spicer) fires on all cylinders.
I have to give extra praise to Daniel Warren Johnson, who is easily one of my favorite creators working today. His work on Murder Falcon, Do a Powerbomb, and Transformers has been nothing short of phenomenal, reigniting my love for comics in ways I didn’t think were possible. His ability to blend raw emotional storytelling with kinetic, jaw-dropping art is unmatched. With this new original comic, he proves once again why he’s in a league of his own. Every page feels like a labor of love, and his unique vision continues to push the boundaries of what comic books can achieve.
If you’re not already reading it, do yourself a favor and pick it up. With its emotional depth, breathtaking visuals, and unforgettable characters, it’s easily one of my favorite series right now, and I can’t recommend it enough.
