Spider-Man 3 Says Screw It Adds Topher Grace As Venom, Confusing Fans
The surprise characters just keep on coming. The BloJo Network has learned that Topher Grace dropped by the Spider-Man 3 set in Atlanta last week, leading observers to believe that he will be reprising his much-maligned role of Venom.
The news is especially confusing given the recent success of 2018’s Venom, which earned over $856 million worldwide and received fan praise for both Tom Hardy’s performance as Eddie Brock and the character’s odd but fascinating relationship with the titular symbiont.
This writer asked fans on the street about the new development.
“What the f**k are they thinking?” responded one young man, who wishes to remain anonymous. “Tom Hardy’s right there! Are they blind or just stupid?! Yeah, I was excited for Spider-Man 3, but now I think I’ll save my money. F**king idiots.”
When we reached out to director Jon Watts for comment, he replied, “I can neither confirm nor deny at this time. But if this news were true, I think that Topher deserves a second chance. He’s a great guy, and he’s genuinely remorseful about how he took a dump on such a beloved villain. Furthermore, Sam Raimi, Ivan Raimi, and Alvin Sargent know they really screwed the pooch with their screenplay, and Sony’s meddling didn’t help. With Feige at the helm, though, I can assure you we wouldn’t make the same mistakes. But again, that’s completely hypothetical.”
It remains to be seen if Topher Grace will stick around as Venom in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, if this speculation is indeed true. However, the rumor is credible enough that Hardy has released a statement:
“Hey, Topher Grace can play around in the multiverse sandbox all he wants. It’s big enough for everyone, and maybe he’ll shock everyone with his performance. If this rumor is even true. But if he thinks he could replace me as Venom in the SPUMC, he’s stark-ravin’ mad. Do you know how much my movie made? And did you see me in Bronson? If he wants to fight me for the role, I’ll kick his ass. All I gotta say is, he better hope no black cats cross his path, if you catch my drift.”
Sandbox? Shock? Stark-Ravin’? Black cats? Could Tom Hardy know more than he’s letting on, and we’ll see appearances by Sandman, The Shocker, Kraven, Black Cat, and more? Or is he teasing a return of Tony Stark in some form? BloJo will keep our readers apprised of further developments as they occur.
What do our readers think? What characters do you want to see show up in this much-anticipated Spider-Man sequel? Will Topher Grace redeem himself, or will he s**t the bed again? Let us know in the comments.
In other news, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has reportedly added David Hasselfoff as Nick Fury, Dolph Lundgren as The Punisher, and Ben Affleck as Daredevil.
