PANTHEON RULES

  1. Pantheon holds different meanings for different people. Every Council member is free to vote however they see fit, because there are no right answers. Since we designed the process to be political, a little chaos is inevitable … and welcome! It makes the conversation better. Think of our Pantheon as AFI meets IGN—a healthy mix of the highbrow classics, the pop culture touchstones, and the occasional offbeat favorite. Like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.

  2. To earn a place in the Pantheon all films must be nominated. Each nomination must be accompanied with a reason for the nomination. Council members will have a set time frame in which to decide if a film is Pantheon worthy. The Pantheon is a place for 5-star films, and/or unique films that our council chooses to celebrate. If a film is celebrated because of its uniqueness the film must not fall below a 4.0 on the rating scale and must be unique to its genre and written about in great detail. Can a bad movie be so good it makes Pantheon? Well, that’s up to the voter and their own personal rating scale. Again, we like chaos in our criteria.

  3. A film must stand the test of time and be released for a full year from its theatrical release before being nominated by a Council member. Certain exceptions will be discussed for foreign films, etc...

  4. Each Council member is required to watch the nominated film and provide a review along with their vote. While there is no word count limit for reviewing other members' nominations, all reviews must be thoughtful and of high quality. The only review that requires a minimum of 250 words is for your own movie nomination. As Council members, it is our duty to thoroughly examine each film and show respect for every nomination. All reviews must be submitted during the official Pantheon post, ensuring accountability and maintaining the highest standards of quality. Members are encouraged to write in detail about aspects such as the script, sets, music, cast, cinematography, direction, effects, and more.

  5. A Golden Idol winner can be suggested during a Marathon or Versus episode for Pantheon consideration if agreed on unanimously by the participants of the episode. The Council members must take this suggestion seriously because of the close examination of the film and the combined agreement of the Marathon or Versus participants. Council members need only write a "powergraph" (well-argued paragraph) review with at least 100-150 words. This is also why we don't have guest voters, as the podcast participants fill the role of guest voters.

  6. Pantheon members represent the Videoland community and all Council members must be active in the group by posting on the Facebook page, sharing, pressing LIKE, or by recording in the studio. In addition, all Council members must check the group messages every few days for updates. Your support is needed and valued!

  7. A film must receive a two-thirds majority vote by the Council to qualify as Pantheon. During a Pantheon season, a film must receive 7/11 group votes.

  8. Once a film enters the Pantheon it cannot be removed, so choose wisely.

  9. If a Council member decides to leave their office a Council replacement will be voted on by the remaining members.

  10. A film can be nominated multiple times for Pantheon consideration if the film is not granted entry on the first nomination. However, a film cannot be reconsidered for Pantheon until one year after it was rejected. The only exception to this rule is the end of the year People's Pantheon Poll. Any movie regardless of knock out rules may be nominated during this time. Rejected films may be granted a second chance but will have to fight against some very popular films to gain admittance.

  11. Pantheon movies are sacred and will not be able to participate in Marathons or Versus episodes. This rule forces us to watch movies we wouldn't usually watch and helps us balance out Marathons and Versus episodes.

  12. Council members cannot nominate a film that has been knocked out of a Versus episode until its comeback date. The only way a knockout film can be considered for Pantheon is by experiencing an early comeback through a Marathon episode.
