Eli Roth to direct Alf Annihilation for Netflix
After a failed ALF reboot from James Gunn (who declined to press charges after the alien actor sexually assaulted him), one of the most popular American television sitcom characters of all-time is about to be resurrected in a new horror movie called ALF Annihilation. The anticipated horror movie is expected to debut later this year on Netflix.
During an interview with The BloJo Movie Network, director Eli Roth discussed the plot of ALF Annihilation.
“The Tanner family's lives are changed forever when the last survivor from the planet Melmac crashes into their garage. We will then see ALF go on a murderous rampage,” said Roth. “I’ve decided to make the movie about as simple as one can get for an ALF plot. An alien comes to a small town, begins eating cats, and eventually starts eating people. And… that’s it. That’s the plot. There are minor substories about the military and a general who has a hard-on for ALF, but ultimately the entirety of ALF Annihilation focuses on ALF going on a bloody killing spree.”
This marks a significant shift from the plot of Gunn’s film, which was to have seen the extraterrestrial houseguest fall in love with sadistic torturers at a secret government agency facility and was to have featured full-frontal ALF nudity and themes of embracing sadomasochism. Pretty convoluted stuff.
“ALF Annihilation is extremely predictable and one-dimensional,” Roth continued. “When you try and make a movie like this, with a super crappy alien concept, it’s extremely easy to go down a rabbit hole of stupidity. So we really decided to swing for the fences with this one. F*ck it! But we barred cocaine and cotton candy from the set, because we knew that really f*cked ALF up the last time. Did you hear what he did to E.T.? That’s some messed-up sh*t. Also, I will not be answering questions concerning ALF’s alleged sex tape ALF GOES ANAL. Let’s keep this interview classy.”
Eli Roth continued to explain one of the movie’s scenes that shows ALF killing a cat.
“A cat is napping in a cardboard box and then ALF violently grabs it with his razor-sharp claws and rips the cat in half,” he revealed. “It’s scary but it’s also funny because there’s a shot of ALF choking on a fur ball after he eats the cat. It’s freakin’ hilarious!”
What are your thoughts on ALF Annihilation? Without question, the movie and the horror reboot will bring some controversy about whether a beloved sitcom character should be portrayed in such a horrifying way. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
