A.V. PULL LIST: New Terminator comic series coming soon from Dynamite
Just in time for the “Terminator” franchise's 40th anniversary, Dynamite Comics is set to release a new series that will no doubt have fans excited. Written by Declan Shalvey with art by Luke Sparrow, this series will hopefully offer a fresh take on the iconic sci-fi saga.
The creators are teasing an anthology-style series, where each issue introduces new situations and dilemmas—mostly standalone stories. "We’re going for a more stripped-down, pulpy approach to the book," Shalvey revealed. "As innovative and groundbreaking as the first film was, it was also grounded in its environment, being noirish and moody as hell. An unstoppable force is coming to kill you — that’s the element of the franchise I want to lean into."
Shalvey's comments about taking inspiration from the tone of the original 1984 “Terminator” film are particularly intriguing. The first film wasn’t just a futuristic action flick; it was a moody, gritty noir with an unstoppable killer at its core. Shalvey’s focus on the "unstoppable force" angle—where the looming threat of a cold, unrelenting killing machine is the driving tension—should appeal to fans who prefer that horror-infused vibe over the blockbuster action of later entries in the franchise.
I’ve also heard that this comic will be setting up a fresh hook: killer robots traveling throughout human history as Skynet works tirelessly to erase humanity from existence. If the machines couldn't get Sarah and John Connor, why not go after their ancestors? This angle could add a new depth to the “Terminator” universe and make every issue feel like a unique, high-stakes scenario.
This new “Terminator” series sounds like a must-have for any fan, and it's the perfect addition to your comic book pull list as we gear up to celebrate 40 years of cybernetic carnage. Don't miss it when it hits comic shops soon!
