65 CONFIRMED as a secret prequel spin-off to Yellowstone!
Directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods have confirmed that “65” is kind of connected to Paramount's hit show "Yellowstone."
The BloJo Movie Network asked the “65” directors about the connection between their Adam Driver dinosaur movie and “Yellowstone,” with Beck saying, “In our headcanon, 65 is a secret prequel spin-off to Yellowstone, but it is not really related at all. Our love for Yellowstone is actually where the idea came from. Look, The Yellowstone Dutton Ranch is located on Earth, so we’re like, I wonder what Yellowstone looked like 65 million years ago? What did it look like before the Duttons? What did it look like before the Native Americans? Also, we like to think of Adam Driver’s character as the first Dutton even though his last name is Mills. If you squint hard enough, he kind of looks like a Dutton. So that idea and our love for the Yellowstone universe took us to a world of prehistoric monsters, and that's where this whole story took shape.”
Woods chimed in by noting, “However, we did add a fanboy Easter egg to the end credits. We show Earth burning up following a meteor strike. The imagery then progresses to the modern age. We show you what we think The Yellowstone Dutton Ranch looks like in the future, post dinosaurs. We jokingly call it Yellowstone 2099. The connection between 65 and Yellowstone makes everything a lot more fun. So, 65 is absolutely inspired by Yellowstone, but it’s not really a secret prequel spin-off or anything like that. Kinda. It’s hard to explain. You know what? We’re gonna change our answer. Now our answer is yes. 65 is a secret prequel spin-off thingy to Yellowstone. There, we said it.”
65 crash landed in theaters on March 10, 2023.
